Cestrum nocturnum
(lady of the night)
This is a bushy, evergreen shrub growing up to 4m approximately, with creamy-white, tubular flowers that release a sweet and musky perfume at night.
Cestrum nocturnum is grown in subtropical regions as an ornamental plant for its flowers that are heavily perfumed at night, attracting various pollinators.
The flowers open in the evening and close the following morning. Flowers may be followed by clusters of small, white fruits.
It is the ideal choice for screening, it can easily be trained to grow up a trellis or pruned into a lovely fragrant hedge.
Cestrum nocturnum can be grown outdoors in a sheltered sunny place with well-drained soil.
